BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center will be the site of the 2012 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, running Thursday, March 8, through Friday, March 10. Admission to the event is free.
Qualified NCAA Division I divers from the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio will compete for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships. A total of seven women will qualify for the women's championship, March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., and seven men will qualify for the men's championship, March 22-24 in Federal Way, Wash.
On March 8, qualification will take place beginning at 1 p.m. in the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter event. On March 9, the men will compete on the 1-meter and the women on the 3-meter, beginning at 1 p.m. Competition concludes on March 10 with the platform event, beginning at 11 a.m.
Divers qualify based on their finishes in the three events. For example, the platform winner, 3-meter winner and 1-meter winner would earn the top three spots. The 3-meter runner-up would claim the fourth spot, with the 1-meter runner-up fifth on the grid. The 3-meter third-place finisher gets spot No. 6, while the third-place finisher on the 1-meter gets the No. 7 slot.
Should the same diver finish first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter, for example, they would keep going down the qualification list until seven different divers have been selected.
