DEFENDING CHAMPS
The Hoosiers will defend their conference crown at the CWPA Eastern Championship after capturing the program's second title in 2011 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Last season, Indiana's dramatic title run included wins over Harvard, Hartwick, and Michigan en route to the coveted automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. The Hoosiers won their first CWPA Eastern Championship in 2003.
WINNING WAYS
The Hoosiers notched their 26th victory of the season in the third place game over No. 10-ranked Maryland at the CWPA Western Division Championship, tying the school's single-season wins record set by the 1998, 2003, and 2011 squads. Head Coach Barry King and the Hoosiers have reached the 20-win plateau 13 times in 15 seasons.
HALL OF FAMER
Former Indiana women's water polo standout Kristin Stanford will be inducted into the CWPA Hall of Fame on April 26 during the league's annual banquet. Stanford is the 21st inductee into the Hall of Fame and the first Hoosier to earn the prestigious honor. Stanford, a three-time ACWPC (Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches) All-American, is the all-time scoring leader at Indiana, notching 246 goals during her stellar career from 2000-03.
WESTERN REWIND
The Hoosiers finished in third place at the CWPA Western Division Championship on April 14-15 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Indiana, competing as the No. 2 seed, routed Salem International in the first round before falling 10-7 to No. 3 seed Michigan in the semifinals. The Hoosiers rebounded with a 7-6 win over top-seeded Maryland in the third place contest.
CWPA SUCCESS
Indiana has found success in meetings with CWPA opposition this season. The Hoosiers have registered a 10-2 overall record against conference foes in 2012, while outscoring them 138-83. The Cream and Crimson are 9-8 versus squads ranked among the Top-20 in the nation.
DISHING THE ROCK
Freshman Colleen McNaught has made a habit of finding open teammates in position to score during her debut season. The Dana Hills, Calif. native leads the team with 46 assists, which is fourth on the IU all-time single-season assists list. Brooke Zimmerman holds the school record with 56 helpers in 2008.
ANCHORING THE D
Senior Cassie Wyckoff continues to provide the Hoosiers with a reliable presence between the pipes, racking up 331 saves this season. Wyckoff, the IU career saves leader, is 17 saves shy of her 2011 single-season record of 348.
HOOSIER NOTES
- Sophomore Meghan Lappan reeled in a career-high six steals in the loss to Michigan. She is second on the squad with 45 takeaways.
- Sophomore Shae Fournier has increased her single-season scoring record to 89 goals. She is seventh on the IU career scoring list. Fournier is also 10th on the IU career steals list with 168.
- The Hoosiers are 12-1 this season when recording double-digit steals.
- Indiana has reached double-figure scoring on 12 occasions, registering a perfect 12-0 mark in those contests.
