BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's golf team heads south to the French Lick Resort for the 2012 Big Ten Women's Golf Championship, April 27-29 on the Donald Ross Course.
The Hoosiers are looking to improve upon last year's seventh-place finish and are coming off a victory in their own IU Invitational on April 15.
The Big Ten Championship is a 54-hole event in a 6-count-4 format. The teams will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. ET from holes No. 1 and 10 on Friday and Saturday, with the final round start time set for 8 a.m. ET on Sunday. Live results will be available on www.GolfStat.com. Indiana will tee off from No. 10 in 10-minute intervals beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday. The Hoosiers will be playing with Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Leading the way for the Hoosiers is senior Kristtini Cain, who is coming off her first collegiate victory with a playoff win at the IU Invitational on April 15. Cain leads the team in stroke average at 75.55 and has a total of four top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes this year.
Junior Kate Coons will play in the No. 2 spot after finishing tied for first in regulation play at the IU Invitational. Coons enters the postseason with a 77.29 stroke average and a total of three top-10 finishes.
Freshman Elizabeth Tong has had a solid rookie campaign and will play in the No. 3 slot this weekend. Tong has five top-25 finishes and a pair of top-10 finishes, including a tie for eighth at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate that was held on the Donald Ross Course in October.
Junior Rosie Davies holds the No. 4 spot and enters the championship second on the team in stroke average at 75.66. Davies has three top-10 finishes, led by a victory at the IU Fall Kickoff last September and a tie for fourth at the Mary Fossum Invitational.
Junior Pamela Burneski has battled through injury this season but has still put up a solid campaign and will play in the No. 5 spot. Burneski has a pair of top-25 finishes this year, led by a ninth-place showing at the IU Fall Kickoff.
Freshman Kamryn Klawitter earned a trip to her first Big Ten Championship in the No. 6 spot. Klawitter's season-best round of 76 came in the final round of the Lady Northern Intercollegiate, held on this course.
Michigan State is the defending Big Ten Champion and enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Ohio State is the No. 1 seed, followed by Purdue at No. 3, Northwestern at No. 4 and Michigan at No. 5. Seedings are based on the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Indiana is the No. 9 seed and is ranked 76th in Golfweek/Sagarin.
