Two Hoosiers Earn CWPA Weekly Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Cassie Wyckoff and freshman Alexis Jones earned notice from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) after leading the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team to an 8-7 victory at No. 9 Michigan on Saturday in front of a national television audience, the conference office announced.
Wyckoff garnered the CWPA Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award, while Jones was named CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week.
Wyckoff racked up 15 saves against the Wolverines, including a five-meter penalty block in the third quarter and a clutch stop on Michigan's final possession of the contest.
The Los Altos, Calif. native's strong effort in Ann Arbor was her 20th double-digit save outing of the season and lifted her season saves total to 308. She increased her IU career saves record to 1,060.
The award marks the sixth of the season for Wyckoff and the 15th of her career.
Jones was clutch in every sense of the word for the Hoosiers, scoring two goals in the final 6:33 of the contest, including the game-winner with 46 seconds remaining.
Along with her two goals, Jones recorded a team-high four earned exclusions, an assist, and a field block in the thrilling win.
Jones has notched 20 goals, seven assists, 11 steals, five field blocks, and 24 earned exclusions during her freshman campaign.
The award is the first for the Mundelein, Ill. native.
