Final Round Pairings
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team (No. 32 Golfweek-Sagarin/No. 31 Golfstat) is in third place after two rounds of play at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, posting a 2-over 570 (285-285) at the IU Golf Course on Saturday. The Indiana Crimson squad is in fourth after recording a 6-over 574 (292-282).
"We came out tight and it really restricted our play," said Indiana head coach Mike Mayer. "Tomorrow we've got to loosen up. We've got to get out of own way and play our game. If we can do that, we can make up all the ground we need to."
Northwestern is on top of the leaderboard after firing a 10-under 558 (281-277), with IUPUI in second after posting a 3-under 565 (291-274). Northwestern's Jack Perry holds the individual lead after day one, firing a 5-under 137 (69-68).
Sophomore David Mills was the top Indiana performer on day one, tying for second after a 4-under 138 (70-68). The Evansville, Ind. native is on pace for his third top-10 finish of the 2011-12 season.
Senior David Erdy is tied for 15th after a 1-over 143 (72-71), while fellow senior Chase Wright is tied for 27th at 3-over 145 (72-73).
Juniors Brant Peaper and Corey Ziedonis are tied for 32nd after the second round, each posting 4-over 146. Peaper notched 73s during each round and Ziedonis opened with an even par 71, but finished with a 75 in the afternoon.
Freshman Andrew Fogg led the way for the Indiana Crimson team, firing a 1-over 143 (75-68) to move into a tie for 15th. Fogg's second round 68 marks the lowest of his young Hoosier career.
Sophomore Hugo Menendez also posted a career-low, firing a second round 69 en route to a 2-over 144 (75-69) total to tie for 21st.
Junior Michael McGee, fresh off his individual medalist honors at the Beu Mussato Invitational, is tied for 27th after posting a 3-over 145 (70-75).
Freshman Nicholas Grubnich and junior Kyle Perry are tied for 32nd, each posting a 4-over 146. Grubnich put together rounds of 72 and 74, while Perry recorded rounds of 75 and 71.
Junior John Beringer is tied for 68th after notching a 9-over 151 (77-74).
The Hoosiers will be paired with Northwestern and IUPUI during Sunday's final round, which begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
