BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Field Hockey head coach Amy Robertson announced the 2012 schedule on Tuesday, May 1, which features eight games at the IU Field Hockey Complex in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers open the season at Kent State on Aug. 24, followed by a game vs. Vermont in Kent, Ohio, on Aug. 26. Indiana opens the home slate with Missouri State on Friday, Aug. 31. IU will then take on Louisville in Bloomington on Sept. 7 and Ohio on Sept. 9. On Sept. 15, the Hoosiers will play host to Cal and will then close out the month of the September with four straight road games - at Penn State (Sept. 21), at Lock Haven (Sept. 23), at Michigan State (Sept. 28) and at Ball State (Sept. 30).
"The Indiana Field Hockey program is thrilled to increase our dates of home competition to eight games in 2012," said Robertson. "We will work hard to take advantage of playing at home and provide an opportunity for the IU community and our fans to see how exciting the IU Field Hockey team is to watch compete."
Indiana opens the month of October against Big Ten foe Iowa on Oct. 5 in Bloomington. The Hoosiers hit the road on Oct. 7 for a trip to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami. On Oct. 12, Indiana will visit Northwestern and will take on Central Michigan in Evanston on Oct. 13. The Hoosiers close the regular season with a three-game homestand, starting with Michigan on Oct. 19. IU will play host to Villanova on Oct. 21 and Ohio State on Oct. 27.
"We are also excited about the consistent high level of play that we will face from within our own conference, while also adding teams from five other conferences outside of the Big Ten," added Robertson. "We have two new opponents on our schedule next year when we face Vermont at Kent State and Lock Haven during our trip to Pennsylvania."
Iowa will play host to the 2012 Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 1-4 in Iowa City. The NCAA Tournament opens on campus sites on Nov. 9-10, followed by the semifinal on Nov. 16 and the championship on Nov. 18, both played in Norfolk, Va.
