BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Senior Chase Wright and sophomore David Mills of the Indiana men's golf team were recognized for their standout play during the 2011-12 season as each were named to the All-Big Ten First Team, the conference office announced.
"Chase and David have led our team statistically throughout the season and this is a well-deserved honor for them," said Indiana head coach Mike Mayer. "They are outstanding athletes, students and, more importantly, outstanding individuals."
The pair helped the Hoosiers to a pair of team titles this season, as well as a runner-up finish at last weekend's Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind.
Wright has recorded a team-low 72.64 stroke average this season. Wright has notched six top-10 finishes in nine total stroke play events, including a runner-up finish at the Firestone Invitational and a tie for eighth at the Big Ten Championship.
The Muncie, Ind. native has the third lowest career scoring average in program history at 73.26, trailing only Jeff Overton (71.72) and Jorge Campillo (72.22).
Wright was also Indiana's Sportsmanship Award winner.
Mills has put together a consistent campaign, registering 72.86 stroke average and racking up five top-10 showings.
Mills was named to the All-Championship Team at the Big Ten Championships after finishing fourth in the event. The sophomore has moved his way up to fourth on the IU career scoring list with an average of 73.41.
Coach Mayer has now landed multiple players on the All-Big Ten team on four occasions, with at least one Hoosier represented during each of his 14 seasons at the helm.
