Drouin Named Athlete of the Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's Derek Drouin is the Field Athlete of the Big Ten Championships the conference announced. Drouin tied the all-time Big Ten record en route to his fifth Big Ten title in the high jump. Indiana also had four men named first team All-Big Ten, with Drouin being joined by Andy Bayer, Kind Butler and Zach Mayhew. Second team All-Big Ten honorees for Indiana include Jordan Gray, Darius King, Monique Riddick, Nick Stoner, Tyler Sult and Chris Vaughn.
Drouin cleared 2.31m (7-7) to win the high jump. The mark matched the Big Ten record and the Olympic A standard, putting Drouin just a top-three finish at the Canadian Olympic Trials away from the London Olympics. Drouin has won five Big Ten high jump titles in his career.
Bayer won the 1,500-meter title, taking the fourth Big Ten crown of his career and his first outdoors. Butler won the 200, his third career Big Ten win. Mayhew took the first conference title of his career, winning the 10,000 meters and becoming Indiana's first champion all-time in the event.
Gray took second in the 800 meters, and Riddick was the runner-up in the shot put. King took second to Drouin in the high jump, and Chris Vaughn was the runner-up in the 400 meters. Butler, Stoner, Sult and Vaughn took second in the 4x100m relay as well.
