Hoosiers Geared Up for NCAA Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. -
The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team (No. 28 Golfstat, No. 33 Golfweek/Sagarin) travels to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the Greensboro Regional of the 2012 NCAA Tournament on May 17-19 at the Grandover Resort (East Course). Head coach Mike Mayer and the Hoosiers are making their eighth team appearance in the past nine seasons at the NCAA Tournament.
The Greensboro Regional is one of six 54-hole tournaments conducted, with the low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional advancing to the finals. The finals will be played on May 29-June 3 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

THE FIELD
The Cream and Crimson are among a 14-team field in Greensboro that includes, in order of seeds (Golfstat ranking in parentheses): Auburn (5), UNLV (9), Florida (17), Duke (20), Indiana (28), Liberty (32), SMU (41), Texas Tech (44), Tulsa (53), Lamar (56), Louisiana-Lafayette (62), Charlotte (71), George Washington (169), and Mount St. Mary's (241).
POSTSEASON
Head coach Mike Mayer and the Hoosiers have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament as a team in eight of the past nine seasons, as well as advancing individuals in two campaigns to mark 10 straight years that IU Men's Golf has been represented in the postseason.
STEADY PLAY
The Hoosiers have consistently been in the hunt during their stroke play events throughout the 2011-12 campaign, finishing in the top-4 in eight out of nine tournaments, including titles at the Firestone Invitational and the Boilermaker Invitational. Along with their triumph in West Lafayette, Indiana posted a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championships and two third place showings during their slate of four stroke play events in the spring.
RECORD BOOK
Indiana boasts a trio of players that are near the top of the Hoosier career-scoring list. Chase Wright is third and leads the squad with a career mark of 73.26. David Mills has quickly climbed the record book and is fourth at 73.41, while David Erdy is sixth with an average of 73.52.
IN CONTENTION
Indiana's five-man lineup that will take to the course in Greensboro has posted a combined 15 top-10 finishes this season, including six top-5 showings. Wright has recorded a team-best six top-10 finishes, followed by Mills (5) and Erdy (3). Brant Peaper also notched a tie for sixth at the Windon Memorial.
