BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - NCAA 1,500m Champion Andy Bayer will be in the field at the U.S. Olympic Trials next week after his run at the Bloomington Twilight. Bayer clocked a time of 3:38.07 to get under the Olympic Trials `A' standard of 3:39.00 just before the midnight deadline for qualifying.
Bayer's time moves him past IU legend and two-time Olympian Bob Kennedy on the all-time 1,500m list for fourth in IU lore. Bayer took second behind German Fernandez, who broke a seven-year old track record with a time of 3:37.76. Bayer and Fernandez were joined by Wisconsin's Rob Finnerty in getting A-qualifiers, as Finnerty was third in 3:38.60.
