BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Santiago Quirarte, who played for the Hoosiers from 2004-08, claimed a two-stroke victory on the Mexican Tour last week and gained full status onto the PGA Tour Latin America as a result of the victory.
Quirarte, a native of Queretaro, Mexico, fired rounds of 71-64-71 to finish the tournament 10-under par, which was held at the Atlas Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico. He now looks to qualify for the Web.com Tour by the end of the PGA Tour Latin America season, which runs until the middle of December.
"It is great to have yet another IU Men's Golf alumn out there on the professional tour," Indiana head coach Mick Mayer said. "Santiago was a great player for us and we are thrilled with the success that he has had upon completing his career at Indiana."
