GETTING STARTED
For the 12th consecutive season, the Hoosiers will open the season at the Michigan Kick-Off in Ann Arbor, Mich. While the CWPA conference foes will not face each other this weekend, they will once again join an elite field as the 2013 season begins.
Indiana, ranked No. 14 in the CWPA Preseason Poll that was released on Jan. 16, will join three teams ranked inside the Top 10 - No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 San Diego State, No. 9 San Jose State - along with No. 11 Michigan at the event.
Last year, Indiana defeated Michigan in the season opener, 6-3, at the Michigan Kick-Off.
A LOOK BACK...
Last year, the Hoosiers set a number of program records, both as a team and individually:
• 28 wins, the most in program history • Two wins against Michigan in regular season • Shae Fournier set the single-season record with 95 goals • Colleen McNaught posted 51 assists, the third-most in a single-season • Cassie Wyckoff single-season saves record (356)
KOHLI COMING OFF REDSHIRT
Redshirt senior and two-time All-American Jakie Köhli will return to the pool for the 2013 season after sitting out last year recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Köhli scored 80 goals a junior to set a then-single-season record (Fournier had 95 last year to set new mark). Köhli's 180 career goals are good for fifth place on the Indiana career goals list, well within striking distance of Kristin Stanford's career goals mark of 246.
WESTERN REWIND
The Hoosiers finished in third place at the CWPA Western Division Championship on April 14-15, 2012 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Indiana, competing as the No. 2 seed, routed Salem International in the first round before falling 10-7 to No. 3 seed Michigan in the semifinals. The Hoosiers rebounded with a 7-6 win over top-seeded Maryland in the third place contest.
CWPA SUCCESS
Indiana found success in meetings with CWPA opposition last season. The Hoosiers registered a 12-3 overall record against conference foes in 2012, while outscoring them 161-103. The Cream and Crimson were 9-8 versus squads ranked among the Top-20 in the nation.
DISHING THE ROCK
Freshman Colleen McNaught has made a habit of finding open teammates in position to score during her debut season. The Dana Hills, Calif. native paced the team with 51 assists, which is third on the IU all-time single-season assists list. Brooke Zimmerman holds the school record with 56 helpers in 2008.
ANCHORING THE D
Indiana will welcome two freshmen into the fold at the goalkeeper position in 2013. Mary Campbell and Jessica Gaudreault will find themselves in the pipes this season as the Hoosiers look to fill the void left by graduated senior Cassie Wyckoff. She had 356 saves during her season campaign in 2012 to set a new single-season mark at IU.
