Penn State visits Bloomington fresh off a 1-1 opening weekend of Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions fell to Michigan State 3-2 at home before beating Michigan 3-1. PSU is led by Ariel Scott, a 6-4 senior who plays right-side. Scott leads the team with 3.24 kills per set and is hitting .288. The Lions have a multifaceted attack, however, boasting four players with 90+ kills on the season, including Katie Slay, who is hitting a Big Ten best .494 on the season from her middle blocker position. Setter Micha Hancock leads the nation in service aces with 34 this season.
The Buckeyes enter the weekend ranked 12th nationally and lost their last match 3-0 to Michigan State, snapping a 13-match win streak. Ohio State is led by Kaitlyn Leary, a 6-1 outside hitter. The senior is leading the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally, killing 5.21 balls per set, while hitting .267. Setter Taylor Sherwin ranks fourth nationally with her 12.19 assists per set.
HAVERLY PURSUING HISTORY
Jordan Haverly became the fifth Hoosier all-time to surpass 1,500 career kills with her first kill of the night at Wisconsin. Her 1,505 career kills are the seventh most among active players nationally. The fifth-year senior led Indiana in kills during all three of her previous seasons (2009, 2010 & 2012). She sat out the 2011 campaign due to a knee injury suffered during the Spring season of 2011. Haverly had major reconstructive surgery on her knee after tearing her ACL, MCL, LCL and meniscus.
This season, Haverly had 116 kills and is one of four Hoosiers with more than 100 terminations. The Cherry Hill, Ill., native ranks second on the IU squad in kills, no longer having to carry as much of the burden. Look for the senior to have a stronger 2013 season with less stress being placed on her surgically repaired knee.
Haverly has 913 career digs and is just 87 away from becoming the first Hoosier ever to accumulate 1,500 kills and 1,000 digs.
SEVEN MORE FOR HANSEN
Caitlin Hansen is in year two as the libero for the Hoosiers. The senior from Indianapolis is just seven digs away from becoming the 10th Hoosier with 1000+ digs.
Hansen started out the Big Ten slate strong, averaging 4.14 digs per set against Minnesota and Wisconsin, a mark that ranks third in the Big Ten through one week of conference action. The senior upped her level of play for the Big Ten slate, as she averaged 3.39 digs per set during the non-conference slate.
PUT IT AWAY-LE
Transferring into Indiana last January, Indiana's recruitment of Awele Nwaeze was fast and furious, sort of how her start on the court has been this Fall.
Nwaeze leads the team in service aces and blocks and is just .5 points from the team lead (11, 37, 145.5). The sophomore transferred in from Miami (FL) and has immediately become a go to player for the Hoosiers in crunch time. On the first weekend of the season, Nwaeze earned MVP honors after leading the Hoosiers to the Indiana Invitational title and a 3-0 record.
MO' BETTA
Junior Morgan Leach has been a consistent offensive force for the Hoosiers through her first two seasons in Bloomington, hitting .249 as a freshman and .259 as a sophomore. She is hitting .251 thus far in 2013.
Leach has 128 kills to lead the team in 2013, one of four Hoosiers with 100+ kills. Leach has thrived in a new role this season, moving to the right side full time last weekend after rotating to the position while also playing some in the middle early in the season. Leach played solely in the middle during her first two years at IU.
BRINGING HOME THE HARDWARE
Head Coach Sherry Dunbar has led her Hoosiers to at least one non-conference tournament title in each of her seven seasons in Bloomington, and a total of 12 tourney crowns.

LEADING THE CHARGE
The captains of the 2013 IU Volleyball team, as elected by the players, are Caitlin Hansen and Jade Henderson. The program also has started a leadership council this season which includes Jordan Haverly, Melanie Hicks, Morgan Leach and Katie Gallagher.
Henderson and Hansen will be the team's designated leaders on the court. Each of the four members of the Leadership Counsel will be the team's go-to leader for designated areas. Hicks will be in charge of Game Day Preparation, Haverly will take the lead for Academics, Leach is in charge of Treatment and Recovery, and Gallagher will spearhead Community Outreach.
