BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With wins in three of four events last weekend, Indiana University senior diver Darian Schmidt was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Schmidt swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events in a dual meet at California on Friday, scoring 359.55 points on the 1-meter and 395.70 on the 3-meter.
At Stanford on Saturday, Schmidt battled reigning NCAA 1-meter and 3-meter champion Kristian Ipsen. In the 1-meter competition Ipsen edged out Schmidt by the slightest of margins, taking a .45 point win over Schmidt's score of 357.60. The Hoosier battled back on the 3-meter springboard, finishing first with a score of 383.78.
All four of Schmidt's scores this season are NCAA Zone qualifiers. This is the fourth Big Ten Diver of the Week honor for Schmidt, with his last coming on Jan. 22.
The Hoosier men are back in action Oct. 25-26 as they play host to reigning national champion Michigan and Texas in a double dual meet.
