CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Indiana sophomore Kayleigh Steigerwalt was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team on Sunday, the Big Ten Conference announced upon the conclusion of the tournament. She is the first all-tournament team member from IU since Taylor Fallon in 2007.
Steigerwalt, a native of Columbus, Ind., assisted on the first two goals for Indiana in Wednesday's quarterfinal win over Illinois. The first assist came on a corner kick where the ball was played in to Steigerwalt and she played it off to Lisa Nouanesengsy, who buried a long shot in the back of the goal. The second assist was similar as she played a ball back to defender Tori Keller, and she fired another long shot that squeezed inside the upper right corner of the goal to put the Hoosiers ahead, 2-0, less than 30 minutes into the game.
The Hoosiers would go on to win the game by a score of 5-3 and claim its first Big Ten Tournament win since 1996. The victory also gave the team 14 on the season, tying the school record for wins in a season (1998).
For the season, she has five goals and seven assists, with both totals tying for second-most on the team.
Indiana will look for an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
