Monette Captures Louisville Invitational Title

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Sam Monette won five singles matches on the weekend to claim the Louisville Winter Invitational Title as play concluded Sunday at the tournament.
Monette won his first two matches in straight sets, but needed a third set as he beat Michael Lippens from Louisville 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Monette advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Charles Minc from Kentucky.
In the final Monette was paired with Luis Elizondo of Louisville and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Also competing for IU was freshman Stefan Lugonjic. Lugonjic reached the quarterfinals of the tournament before he was eliminated by Elizondo 6-1, 6-2.
