Hoosiers End Day One of WMU Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Indiana women's tennis tennis picked up 11 total wins in day one of the Western Michigan Super Challenge on Friday. IU went 6-2 in singles and 5-3 in doubles play.
In singles, Katie Klyczek took down Colorado's Julyette Steur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Alecia Kauss earned a win in a close match with Bowling Green's Emily Reuland, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6). Freshman Paula Gutierrez defeated BG's Katie Brozovich 6-5 (4), 6-5 (3).
Carolyn Chupa was victorious over Katherine White of Notre Dame, 6-2, 6-3. After dropping her first set, Kayla Fujimoto rebounded for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) triumph over Marquette's Vanessa Foltinger. Kim Schmider also earned a straight set victory.
In doubles play, Klyczek and Chupa as well as Sophie Garre and Fujimoto both went a perfect 2-0 on the day. Kauss and Gutierrez partnered together to pick up IU's fifth doubles win on Friday.
Day two of the WMU Super Challenge will begin at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday morning.
