Hoosier Open Starts the 2013-14 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana opens the 2013-14 season with the Hoosier Open on Dec. 13-14. The meet will feature open competition on Friday, highlighted by elite invitational 5,000m races at 8:30 and 8:50 p.m. ET, as well as men's and women's pentathlon's on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
Junior Rorey Hunter had a breakthrough cross country season in which he was the Hoosiers second runner and earned All-Big Ten honors to help the Hoosiers win their first Big Ten Cross Country Championship since 1980. Hunter was also a part of the Hoosiers Distance Medley Relay team that earned All-American honors with a fourth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Freshman Ari Nelson won the Indiana state high school title in the long jump at the IU track last summer and looks to build on that going into her first year of collegiate track & field. Nelson also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash at the state meet and is part of a freshman class of 16 women and 15 men.
The Hoosier Open will get underway on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET with the 60m trials. The first field event will be at 5:15 with the women's 20-pound weight throw.
