Schmidt Named to Canada Cup Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University junior diver Darian Schmidt (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) was one of 10 divers named to the U.S. squad for the 2013 Canada Cup, USA Diving announced Friday.

Schmidt will compete on the 3-meter springboard at the event, May 2-5 in Gatineau, Quebec.

Schmidt had a standout sophomore season for the Hoosiers in 2011-12, winning the Big Ten title on the 3-meter springboard and finishing seventh on the 3-meter, 12th on the 1-meter and 16th on the platform at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Just last month, Schmidt set a new IU dual meet record on the 3-meter springboard with his score of 460.20 in a dual meet win over Ohio State and Iowa.

Schmidt and the Hoosiers close out the 2012-13 dual meet season Saturday as they travel to rival Purdue. They will then turn their focus to the 2013 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 27-March 2 in Bloomington.
