WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Although he finished seventh today on the 3-meter springboard, junior Emad Abdelatif has earned a spot at the NCAA Championships based on the finishes at today's NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.
Qualifications conclude Saturday with the platform event.
Junior Darian Schmidt led the way with a second-place showing on the 3-meter, tallying a score of 799.60 through prelims and finals. Because he and winner Greg Ferrucci of Kentucky had already qualified for the meet, Abdelatif's fourth-place finish on the 1-meter yesterday leave him high enough on the qualifying charts to get one of nine available spots in Zone C. Abdelatif tallied 748.95 points for his finish today.
Senior Mick Dell'Orco was one spot behind in eighth place (747.40), with Conor Murphy 11th (732.45). Bryce Ogden finished 16th (691.85) and Casey Johnson 17th (662.90).
George Andrews was 22nd (321.15), with Danton Rogers 29th (291.10) and Andrew Hull 30th (286.80).
In women's 1-meter springboard competition, Kate Hillman finished 11th with a score of 531.50. Amy Cozad placed 31st on the 1-meter with a score of 241.10. Cassidy Kahn was 35th, tallying 233.75 points.
