SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The last time No. 11 Indiana faced off against Hawaii at the Stanford Invitational in early February, the Warriors defeated them handedly 14-6. This time, however, was a completely different story. Indiana stunned No. 11 Hawaii 8-6, beating their highest ranked opponent all season at the Aztec Aquaplex.
Indiana struck first yet again with Shae Fournier scoring the opening goal for the Hoosiers. Fournier had another immensely productive game for the Hoosiers with three goals, one assist, and two field blocks.
Hawaii countered soon after and was able to even up the score almost every time Indiana added a point for most of the quarter.
Indiana really got their separation in the second half. Team leading scorer Jakie Kohil was able to net a point almost immediately after the second half began, and Fournier added another almost immediately after, threading the ball through four defenders to score the most impressive goal of the weekend.
Hawaii had numerous opportunities to score in the fourth quarter, letting Indiana see very little time on offense, but the Hoosiers defense was stifling, only allowing six goals on 34 shot attempts. Goalie Jessica Gaudreault had 11 saves, and the Hoosiers had four crucial field blocks the kept them ahead the entire match.
The Hoosiers have now extended their winning streak to eight, not losing a match in the month of March. The Hoosiers will face another tough test at 3:30 against No. 7 San Diego State.
