BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Amanda Wagner of the Indiana softball team was named the Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference office today, March 18. The award is a first for a Hoosier this season and the second for the senior. Her first weekly award was on April 23, 2012, which was also the last time an IU player has earned player of the week honors.
Wagner paced the Indiana offense this weekend and helped IU to a 3-0 mark at the 2013 Hoosier Classic. The Burbank, Ill. native extended her hitting streak to five games after collecting multiple hits in each of the Hoosiers’ three contests this weekend for remarkable .778 (7-for-9) average. Wagner slugged her way to a 1.333 slugging percentage, driving three of her seven hits for extra bases. On the weekend, she did not strikeout in a single at bat, helping herself to an on-base percentage of .778 through the weekend. Against Toledo, the senior was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
