ON TAP THIS WEEKEND
Indiana will head to Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Tiger Classic hosted by Tennessee State University. The Hoosiers are slated to play five games in three days, and will open up the weekend with a pair of contests against Nebraska-Omaha and Alabama State at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. EST, respectively. On Saturday, IU is set to play Mississippi Valley at 6:30 p.m. and Tennessee State at 8:30 p.m. before closing out the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. Sunday game against Saint Louis.
A LOOK AT THE COMPETITION
Three out of the Hoosiers’ five games will be agaisnt first time opponents this weekend, while the remaining two all-time series reveal a winning record on Indiana’s side. IU will open with Nebraska-Omaha (17-2), a team Indiana has not seen since 1983, and is a program the Hoosiers have posted a 3-0 record against in the all-time series. SWAC memebers Alabama State (1-15) and Mississippi Valley State (6-12) are first time opponents for Indiana, and host Tennessee State (5-11) will also play the Hoosiers for the first time in program history. Indiana will face Saint Louis (4-6) for the ninth time in program history, with IU owning a 7-1 all-time record against the Billikens.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers made the trip west to Fullerton, Calif. last weekend to participate in the Easton Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Indiana battled a tough schedule that included three top-25 squads. In the opening day of the Invite, IU dropped a pair of games to Cal Poly (10-3) and Fullerton (8-2). On Saturday, Indiana fell at the hands of No. 8-ranked Cal in five innings before dropping an extra-innings affair with No. 24 Oregon State. The Hoosiers closed the weekend with a 7-0 loss against No. 16 Stanford.
WELCOME HOME
The Hoosiers are just one week away from opening up its innagural game at Andy Mohr Field. Indiana will host a six-team round robin style tournament as part of the Hoosier Classic on March 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind. IU is slated to open up its first ever contest in its brand new facility against Toledo on March 15.
