Hoosiers Win Match against Gannon, Advance to Championship Round

GENEVA, Ohio - No. 15 Indiana won their second match of the day 16-5 against Gannon University to advance to the CWPA Western Division Championship tomorrow morning at the Myrtha Pool. The Hoosiers' 16 points ties their season high for points scored in a match and sophomores Shelby Taylor and Alexis Jones both set new personal records in the process.
Rebecca Gerrity put two quick points on the scoreboard before back-to-back 5-meters by both teams made the score 3-1 in favor of the Hoosiers.
Shelby Taylor took over where Gerrity left off, scoring three goals in the first quarter alone. She finished with a new personal high four goals on only five shots and added three assists.
Fellow sophomore Alexis Jones also set a new personal record by tallying three assists and four steals to go along with a goal. She mailed two back-to-back dimes to teammate Katie Contreras for scores and gave the Hoosiers a 10-2 lead heading into the half.
Reigning CWPA Rookie of the Week Mary Campbell had nine saves on 16 shot attempts. She also added one assist on a long ball to Shelby Taylor and two steals.
The Hoosiers will play for the Western Division Championship tomorrow morning against Hartwick at 11:30 am EST. The winner will get the number one seed in the Eastern Conference Finals in two weeks.
