BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University junior diver Darian Schmidt is the 2013 Big Ten Diver of the Year, the conference office announced Tuesday.
It is the second-straight year and 11th time overall a Hoosier has taken home the award.
Last week Schmidt, a Bloomington South graduate, capped off his season with a pair of All-America honors at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis. Schmidt finished sixth on the 1-meter with a score of 387.90, his best-ever finish in the event at the NCAA meet.
He then posted a third-place finish on the 3-meter springboard with 425.50 points. It is the best 3-meter finish by a Hoosier since Mark Lenzi took second in 1990.
Schmidt was named Big Ten Diver of the Championships last month after winning the Big Ten title on the 1-meter and placing second on the 3-meter. Schmidt also took home a Big Ten title on the 3-meter in 2012.
