A LOOK AT THE BADGERS
Wisconsin will head to Bloomington with a 35-9 record on the season and a 12-5 mark in Big Ten play. The Badgers 35 wins is a program record.
The Badgers are hitting .308 on the year and are led by Mary Massei's .427 batting average. In the circle, Meghan McIntosh (11-4) and Cassandra Darrah (20-5) have split a majority of the innings this season, with each owning 1.64 and 2.02 earned run avereages, respectively. Wisconsin's pitching staff has combined for a 1.85 ERA with an opponent batting average of .218.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Indiana and Wisconsin will meet for the 37th time in program history this weekend. The Badgers lead the all-time series 15-21, but the Hoosiers have taken the previous two meetings, most recently a 6-3 win in Bloomington on April 17, 2011. In that game, Amanda Wagner used one swing of the bat in the bottom of the seventh to lift her squad over the Badgers with a grand slam over the left field fence. The walk-off was the third game-winning hit that season for Wagner.
ANDY MOHR FIELD DEDICATION
Indiana University officially dedicated Andy Mohr Field on April 23, where IU President Michael McRobbie presided over the dedication ceremony for the new stadium. McRobbie and Mohr spoke at the event along with IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletes Fred Glass, IU First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie, IU Softball student-athlete Amanda Wagner, Softball Head Coach Michelle Gardner, Architect John M. Dierdorf, and Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities Thomas A. Morrison. IU Softball student-athlete Shelby Gogreve provided dedicatory music.
"Andy Mohr Field and the Siwy-Baker Clubhouse bring softball for the forefront of Indiana Athletics," said Amanda Wagner. "This facility also puts Indiana on the map as a premium softball destination with many advantages over other Big Ten teams and other elite programs in the country."
"Words can not adequately explain how I feel each and every day when I walk in this facility," said Head Coach Michelle Gardner. "It's magnificent."
"Future student-athletes are focusing more on the facilities that they are going to train and compete in. I am extremely proud to show recruits some of the most magnificent facilities in the country. I am speaking of the North End Zone (Student-Athlete Development Center), the Wilkinson Performance Center, as well as the D. Ames Shuel Academic Center. And now to complete the picture with this beautiful stadium, Andy Mohr Field."
A SALUTE TO THE SENIORS
Saturday's game with Wisconsin will also serve as senior day for the Indiana softball team's senior class. Kelsey Brannon, Samantha Heyman and Amanda Wagner will all be honored prior to first pitch on Satuday afternoon as they will play in their final home series donning the Hoosiers uniform. Student manager Lindsay Hogue and student assistant Katherine Allert will also be recognized.
