Drouin Advances to the High Jump Finals at Worlds

MOSCOW, Russia - Indiana track and field's Derek Drouin survived and advanced to the finals in the men's high jump at the IAAF World Championships. The Canadian cleared 2.29m (7-6) to advance to the 12-man final. He jumps in the finals at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Similarly to his performance at the London Olympics in 2012, Drouin's qualifying experience proved to be rockier than he is accustomed to. Drouin, who prides himself on keeping a clean sheet in competition, took two attempts to clear 2.26m (7-5) and three to clear 2.29m. In London, Drouin had misses at 2.21m (7-3), 2.26m and 2.29m before qualifying for the finals, where he won a bronze medal. Drouin should have a familiar voice from the sidelines for the finals as IU's Jeff Huntoon is serving as an assistant coach for Team Canada in Moscow.
