IOWA City, Iowa - Indiana University senior Darian Schmidt placed third on the 1-meter springboard on day one of the USA Diving National Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
Schmidt placed third with a score of 396.80 and just four points put of second. Schmidt advanced to the final round after placing fourth in the morning prelims with a tally of 378.75. He is the reigning Big Ten Champion on the 1-meter springboard and was Big Ten Champion on the 3-meter in 2012.
Competition runs through August 18, with the men's 3-meter and women's platform events on Wednesday.
