BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana kicks off its 129th year of football on Thursday, Aug. 29, hosting the Indiana State Sycamores at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT and BTN will broadcast the game.
Chris Denari (play-by-play) and Chuck Long (analyst) will call the game. The game can also be heard on the statewide IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), Buck Suhr (analyst) and Joe Smith (pre-game, halftime and post-game) on the call.
IU returns 20 starters from 2012, including 10 on offense, eight on defense and two on special teams. The Hoosiers are multiple on offense and will run a 4-3 base defense.
ISU returns 13 starters from 2012, including seven on offense, five on defense and one on special teams. The Sycamores run a spread offense and a 4-3 base defense.
Indiana State ended the 2012 season with a 7-4 overall record, a 5-3 mark in Missouri Valley Football Conference play and a 3-2 record away from Terre Haute.
The Coaches
• Kevin Wilson is in his third season as head coach at Indiana. Wilson spent the 2002-10 seasons at Oklahoma, where he served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2002-05 and as offensive coordinator and tight ends and fullbacks coach from 2006-10.
• Mike Sanford is in his first season as head coach at Indiana State. Sanford spent the 2012 season as assistant head coach at Utah State. He served as UNLV's head coach from 2005-09, where he posted a 16-43 record.
News & Notes
• The Hoosiers are 36-17 in Memorial Stadium openers. Indiana has victories in 10 of its last 11 and wins in 27 of its last 31 home starters.
• The Indiana State game is the first of eight home contests in 2013 and the second time in school history the program will host eight contests (2008). Indiana will also open the season with five straight home games for the first time in program history.
• For the third time in school history, the Hoosiers will open the season on a Thursday night at Memorial Stadium. IU is 2-0 in Thursday evening season openers at The Rock, defeating Eastern Kentucky in 2009 and Towson in 2010.
• Indiana has faced Indiana State four times, all in Bloomington, and walked away victorious each time. The Hoosiers downed the Sycamores, 24-17, in the 2012 season opener, 55-7, in the 2007 season opener and added victories in 2003 (33-3) and 1925 (31-0).
• In 2012, IU led the Big Ten in passing offense (311.2), which ranked 17th nationally. The Hoosiers set program records for passing yardage (3,734), total offense (5,304), completions (331), attempts (540) and total plays (939).
• Indiana returns 52 letterwinners and 384 career starts, which is tied for sixth nationally. The Hoosiers also have 10 seniors on the roster, which is the fourth fewest in the country.
Experienced Youth

• Indiana played 16 true freshmen in 2011, tied for the third most in the country.
• Additionally, 16 redshirt freshmen saw action. The 32 total freshmen were the highest total in the nation.
• IU played 11 true freshmen and five redshirt freshmen in 2012.
• In 2012, 24 of the 35 starters were underclassmen - 13 on offense and 11 on defense - including 21 sophomores, one redshirt freshman and two true freshmen.
All-Big Ten Returners
The Hoosiers boasted nine All-Big Ten honorees last season, the most for the program since the 2001 campaign (12). Seven are returning this year, led by junior wide receiver Cody Latimer, who earned second team All-Big Ten honors.
• Fifth-year senior tight end Ted Bolser (coaches and media), fifth-year senior kicker Mitch Ewald (media), sophomore right guard Dan Feeney (coaches and media), fifth-year senior safety Greg Heban (media), sophomore left tackle Jason Spriggs (coaches and media) and junior wide receiver Shane Wynn (media) were honorable mention All-Big Ten.
• Indiana's six honorees on offense and three honorees on the offensive line were also the most since the 2001 team had eight and five, respectively.
• Graduated defensive tackle and current Atlanta Falcon Adam Replogle and center Will Matte also earned recognition.
