Robert Morris, picked to finish second in the NEC this season, has advanced to the NCAA tournament in each of the past 14 seasons, and the Colonials return All-NEC performer Becky Jay, a junior middle blocker from Parma, Ohio. Jay ranked among the top-30 nationally with 158 total blocks in 2012.
Rutgers, picked to finish ninth in the new American Athletic Conference, returns its leading attacker, Alex Lassa, and defender, Tracy Wright, from a season ago. The Scarlet Knights will get a sneak peak of Big Ten Volleyball this weekend before joining the conference full time in 2014.
The Kent State Flashes return their leading hitter from 2012 in Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola and top defender Hannah Herc. They will look to match the result of the last meeting with the Hoosiers, a 2004 win in five sets.
LEADING THE CHARGE
The captains of the 2013 IU Volleyball team, as elected by the players, are Caitlin Hansen and Jade Henderson. The team also has started a leadership council this season which includes Jordan Haverly, Melanie Hicks, Morgan Leach and Katie Gallagher.
Henderson and Hansen will be the team's designated leaders on the court. Each of the four members of the Leadership Counsel will be the team's go-to leader for designated areas. Hicks will be in charge of Gameday Preparation, Haverly will take the lead for Academics, Leach is in charge of Treatment and Recovery, and Gallagher will spearhead Community Outreach.
