Hoosiers Set to Battle Purdue in Dual Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After a break for the winter holidays the Hoosiers are back in action as they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for a dual meet against Purdue on Saturday at Lambert Fieldhouse. The field events will get going with the women’s long jump at 2:00 p.m. and the events on the track will start at 3:25 p.m. with the men’s 800-meter run. The final event on the track will be the men’s 4X400-meter relay at 4:55 p.m.
It was a successful first meet for the Hoosiers with a school record and several top-10 performances and career-best achievements at the Hoosier Open Dec. 13-14 at Gladstein Fieldhouse. Senior Arianne Raby led a Hoosier sweep of the top three places in the women’s 1,000-meter run as she set an IU school record and NCAA leading time in 2:48.46. In their Hoosier track & field debuts, the Neeley twins, Brittany and Bethany, finished 2-3, in time of 2:51.59 and 2:51.82, the eighth and ninth best times in IU school history for the event.
In the field events a trio of Hoosiers set top-10 marks in program history. Sophomore Nina Gutermuth won the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.80 meters (12-5.5). Gutermuth’s mark is good for ninth best in IU school history and is the 16th best mark in the NCAA. Freshman Danielle Quinn had an impressive start to her career as she finished in second-place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.92 meters (39-1.25). Quinn also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters (17-9.5). Fellow freshman Nakel McClinton also had a good day as she finished in fourth-place in the weight throw with a heave of 17.37 meters (56-11.75). Her mark is 10th best in IU school history.
On the men’s side a pair of sophomores from Bloomington had a good start to the season. Jordan Gornall finished in second-place in the men’s 1,000-meter, as he clocked a time of 2:24.41 to tie the second fastest time in school history. Fellow Bloomington native Dylan Anderson finished in second-place and as the top collegiate competitor in the pentathlon with 3,779 points. Anderson’s point total was 181 points better than at this same meet last year. Sophomore Zachary Bray had a good run in the 60-meter hurdles and he finished in fifth-place in a time of 8.29 seconds, the 10th fastest time in school history.
Senior Erica Ridderman, who currently has the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA in the 5,000-meter run in 17:01.13 will race in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday. Between the men’s and women’s teams the Hoosiers hold 10 times and marks in the top 30 in the NCAA.
