Indiana Falls to No. 22/19 Purdue on the Road

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team fell on the road to rival No. 22/19 Purdue on Friday night in Mackey Arena, 86-53. The Hoosiers struggled to knock down shots as Purdue took back the Barn Burner Trophy.
Indiana's Alexis Gassion and Taylor Agler hit early 3-point field goals to put IU ahead 8-6. Purdue stayed right with the Hoosiers using a Liza Clemons layup at the 11:58 mark to give the Boilermakers an 18-14 edge.
Later in the half as Purdue led 24-19, Karlee McBride and Agler hit back-to-back treys in transition to give Indiana a 25-24 lead with 5:46 remaining to prompt a Boilermaker timeout. That lead would be IU's last as Purdue closed the final 5:36 of the half outscoring the Hoosiers 17-3 while connecting on 7-of-9 field goals during that span.
Out of the locker room, Purdue came out on fire and took control of the game outscoring the Hoosiers 15-3 in the first 2:50 to take a 56-31 lead. The Boilermakers kept knocking down shots and ran away with the win on their home floor.
IU struggled all night offensively shooting just 25.7 percent (18-of-70) from the field. Larry Brooks, Gassion and Lyndsay Leikem all scored eight point each to lead the Hoosiers. Gassion also had a career high four blocked shots, five rebounds and three assists.
The story for Purdue was their senior starting backcourt of KK Houser and Courtney Moses. Moses scored 24 points while shooting 10-of-14 from the field and House added 22 points with eight assists and three steals.
The Hoosiers will return home to take on Minnesota on Sunday, Jan. 19 for a 2 p.m. ET tip. It is the annual Head to the Hall game and all tickets are only $1. The first 1,000 fans to enter Assembly Hall on Sunday will receive a commemorative 1973 AIAW Final Four banner as IU will celebrate the greatest era of Indiana women's basketball. The first 500 fans to arrive will get a free IU women's basketball t-shirt.
