Hoosiers Set to Host Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana track & field team returns home this weekend to host the Gladstein Invitational Jan. 24-25 at Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet will get started with the heptathlon and pentathlon at 12:00 p.m. on Friday and resume Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
The men’s 3,000-meter run on Friday at 7:30 p.m. will be setup to run a fast time, with IU alums, now professional runners, Andrew Poore, Danny Stockberger and Zach Mayhew set to compete. IU will race Jason Crist, Carl Smith, Matt Schwartzer, Robby Nierman, JR Ricker and Evan Esselink.
The Hoosiers are coming off the Indiana-Purdue dual meet, where they had a number of solid performances. Indiana dominated the distance events as they took the top three spots in the men’s mile and 3,000-meter run. The Hoosiers also finished with the top two spots in the women’s 3,000-meter run and women’s mile, spots two and three in the women’s 800-meter run and spots one and three in the men’s 800-meter run.
In the men’s mile the Hoosiers trio was separated by just .75 seconds as freshman Jason Crist took the win in 4:12.08. In the men’s 3,000-meter run junior Rorey Hunter crossed the finish line first in 8:13.17, just ahead of teammate sophomore Matt Schwartzer, who took second-place in 8:13.94. Sophomore Jordan Gornall won the men’s 800m-run in a time of 1:52.62 and freshman Tre’tez Kinnaird took the win in the 600m-run in 1:20.18.
In the women’s mile junior Samantha Ginther won the race in 4:49.94, followed by senior Arianne Raby in 4:51.67. Freshman Bethany Neeley was fourth in 4:52.72. Raby also finished in third place in the 800m, one spot behind IU freshman Brittany Neeley, who finished in second-place in 2:13.27.
The Hoosiers also got some good marks in field events from freshman as Ari Nelson won the long jump and Danielle Quinn finished second in the triple jump.
