Hoosiers Start Strong at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's track & field teams opened competition in the Indiana Relays on Friday at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Five Hoosiers ran under 4:10 in the mile, led by senior Robby Nierman, who finished sixth in 4:03.35, the 14th best time in the NCAA this season. Redshirt freshman Jason Crist finished in seventh-place in 4:04.09. IU alum De'Sean Turner won the mile in 3:58.50.
In the women's mile redshirt junior Samantha Ginther finished in third-place as she crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 4:47.37. IU alum Molly Beckwith-Ludlow won the event in 4:34.44, the ninth fastest American time this season.
Junior Mia Mackinnon won the women's high jump with a season-best jump of 1.69m (5-6.75).
Senior Kyla Buckley set a season-best mark in the weight throw with a heave of 17.43m (57-2.25). Buckley will compete in the shot put invitational tomorrow.
The second day of the Indiana Relays will begin at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow and feature several invitational sections of field events as well as additional running events on the track.
