Hoosiers Compete at Ohio Valley Regionals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Four members of the Indiana women’s tennis team competed in day one of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals on Saturday. The University of Tennessee is hosting the event.
In doubles play, IU’s Alecia Kauss and Katie Klyczek teamed together to top Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova of Murray State, 8-5. The Hoosier duo then fell in their second match of the day to Middle Tennessee State’s Tiffany William and Nayara Moraes.
IU’s Shannon Murdy and Stephanie Smith fell in a tough match tiebreaker to Kentucky’s Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and Kirsten Lewis, 8-7 (7-3).
In singles play, Alecia Kauss dropped the first set and rebounded in the second against Vanderbilt’s Ellie Yates. But Yates outlasted Kauss in the final set in a tiebreak to take the match, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. Katie Klyczek also went to a third set against Liza Tymchenko before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Murdy and Smith each came up short in their matches.
