IUXC Wraps Up Busy Weekend with Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. --The Indiana cross country teams finished up a busy weekend with the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The IU men placed first overall as a team in the white race of the event.
There were three levels of competition for both the men and women on Saturday with a blue race, a white race and then an open race. The Hoosiers had competitors in both the white and open events.
In the men’s white 8K run, Kyle DuVall was the first Hoosier to finish in 11th place with a time of 25:18.8. Eric Claxton followed him with a 33rd place finish in 25:52.9. Luke Miller placed 36th and clocked in at 25:54.1. The final two IU scorers were JR Ricker in 43rd (25:58.0) and Mark Chandler in 50th (26:01.7). Those five combined for 164 total points.
In the women’s white 6K race, Indiana’s Kelsey Kluesner led Indiana with a time of 23:06.1 for a 69th place finish as Corinne Cominator placed 75th (23:11.1), Brianna Johnson was 80th (23:12.4), Sydney Lesko was 95th (23:23.6) and Samantha Gwin was 118th (23:42.6). The Indiana women finished 16th in the team standings.
In the open races, Spencer Clapp was IU’s top finisher in 18th in a time of 26:25.1. The top Hoosier runner in the women’s open race was Kellie Davis in 48th position.
Next up for Indiana will be the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Nov. 2 in Iowa City, Iowa.
