Tough Midseason Test Awaits IU at Washington Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana cross country teams will head to the Pacific Northwest for the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, Oct. 4 for one of the premiere meets of the regular season. The field is loaded with talent as nine ranked men’s teams and four nationally-ranked women’s teams will be competing.
The event will take place at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle. This is the first year that the University of Washington will host this event. The women’s 6K race will begin at 2 p.m. ET as the men’s 8K run will get started at 2:45 p.m.
Along with No. 7 Indiana, the men’s field includes five programs that are ranked in the top 10 in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. Other schools competing include No. 2 Northern Arizona, No. 5 Portland, No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 Villanova, No. 13 Virginia, No. 20 UCLA, No. 26 Oklahoma, No. 28 Washington, Idaho and Utah.
On the women’s side, the Hoosiers will match up against four programs ranked in the top 15 nationally. The ladies field includes No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Stanford, No. 13 Villanova, No. 15 Washington, Idaho, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma, Portland, UCLA and Utah.
The next few weekends will be a good test for the Hoosiers before the championship portion of the schedule begins in November. After traveling to Washington this week, IU will compete at the Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. on Oct. 17 and then at the Pre-National invite in Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 18. Both of those fields will also consist of many powerhouse programs.
