Bloomington, Ind.- The Student Athlete Advisory Committee and IU Athletics have joined forces to collect shoes as part of a shoe recycling project that will take place on Tuesday, October 28th, from 8:00am-6:00pm in the west lobby of Assembly Hall. All shoes will be donated to Soles4Soles, a global not-for-profit dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty. This initiative is part of IU Athletics’ ongoing Greening Cream and Crimson sustainability effort.
“One of the main tenants of the Indiana University Athletics Department is that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves,” said former IU student-athlete and Greening Cream and Crimson coordinator Amanda Redfern. “The shoe recycling project that the athletics department is participating in allows both staff and student-athletes to live by this tenant, and help those in need. In addition, the shoe recycling project diverts shoes that could potentially have ended up in the landfill, thus helping IU become one of the greenest athletics departments in the Big Ten.”
All types of shoes are accepted including running shoes, cleats, sandals, and children’s shoes. People are encouraged to donate multiple pairs of shoes.
