BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team will visit Rutgers on Friday to close out the regular season schedule. This is the first time the teams have faced off in Big Ten play.
LAST TIME OUT
On Friday, the Hoosiers dropped a 8-2 decision in their first-ever meeting with No. 2 Maryland. Karen Lorite scored Indiana’s first goal of the game off a penalty corner. Freshman Taylor Pearson recorded her second career goal in the contest.
Indiana was blanked by No. 7 Maryland on Senior Day Sunday. The Hoosiers’ got many looks at the goal, but were unable to capitalize. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Olson had five saves in the game.
RIVALRY WITH RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 2-1 victory against James Madison on Sunday. Rutgers has been led in scoring by Katie Champion, who has found the back of the net eight times this season.
This is the fourth ever meeting between Indiana and Rutgers, and the first conference matchup. The Scarlet Knights own all three victories in the series, including a 1-0 victory last season in Bloomington.
TRICK OR TREAT
Friday’s conference showdown features high stakes for both teams. If Indiana gets past Rutgers, the Hoosiers will qualify for next weekend’s Big Ten Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. Indiana is currently tied for conference wins with both Rutgers and Ohio State. For the first time, one Big Ten squad will not qualify for this year’s tournament.
CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON ON TOP
The Hoosiers are looking for their first victory in a regular season finale since a win at Michigan on Halloween in 2009.
SUNDAY WAS FOR THE SENIORS
Sunday’s game against Louisville marked the final home game for seniors Caitlin Bearish, Audra Heilman, Corinne Karch and Maggie Olson. There was a special presentation to thank these seniors for their time and dedication to the Indiana field hockey program.
JOHNSON FROM JERSEY
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Johnson hails from the Garden State, having played at Ocean City High School in Ocean City, N.J. This is the first time in her career Johnson will be suited up for the Hoosiers in her home state.
200 CLUB
After recording 8 saves against No. 4 Duke on Oct. 5, Olson became only the fourth player in Indiana’s history to record 200 saves. She is now third in program history in saves with 237.

With 13 goals thus far on the season, Audra Heilman now sits in third place in all-time career goals with 32. She also ranks third in career points with 90.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Maggie Olson ranks second all-time in career victories with 25. Junior Sydney Supica is first all-time in defensive saves with 16. Her 8 saves this season leads the Big Ten and is third in the nation.
