BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana redshirt senior Rebecca Dreher was named Second Team Academic All-District 5 on Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced. She becomes just the second player in Indiana women’s soccer history to receive the honor on two occasions.
The other player to receive the accolade twice was Carly Everett, as she was named first team in 2002 and second team in 2003.
Last year, Dreher garnered first team all-district honors along with Shannon Flower while Rebecca Candler was named to the second team.
Dreher is one of six seniors who will be playing the final game of their career in an IU uniform on Friday night against Michigan State at 7 p.m. She has been named Academic All-Big Ten twice in her career and received the Jack D. Tichenor Award, which is handed out to the IU student-athlete with the highest GPA. She has four career goals scored and will graduate with a degree in Biology.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be in at least their second year at the institution. Also, the student-athlete must be a starter or significant player off the bench to be considered.
Overall, it marks the 10th time in program history that a student-athlete has receive either first or second team honors. A complete list of the previous honorees is below:
