Indiana Goes 2-2 in Inaugural Collegiate Cup

USA Water Polo Collegiate Cup Regular Season Starts: Indiana Kick Off, Bloomington, Ind. -- January 23-24, 2015 (Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center) |
IRVINE, Calif. - The Hoosier water polo team travelled west this past weekend to Irvine, Calif. for the first ever USA Water Polo Collegiate Cup. The exhibition tournament included some of the nations best, including six of the eight NCAA Championships teams from the 2014 season and two teams of USA National Team players.
On day one, Indiana faced defending NCAA champions, Stanford and lost a tough game 25-4. In the second game of the day, the Hoosiers were matched-up with USA Blue. IU lost yet again falling 14-4, with goals from freshman Jennifer Beadle (2), junior Candyce Schroeder and senior Rebecca Gerrity.
Indiana fared much better on day number two. For the first game of the day, IU played Cal State - Northridge. In a game that was led from start to finish, Indiana reached double digit goals for the first time in the weekend, winning 10-5. Senior Colleen McNaught led all scorers with four goals -- three of which came in the third period.
After a rough start in the final game of the weekend, Indiana trailed 8-3 midway through the third period. The Hoosiers finished on a 8-2 run capped by a game-winning goal by senior Summer Creighton with only 14 seconds remaining. Leading the way with five goals was senior Alexis Jones. IU finished 2-2 on the weekend.
