BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Women's Soccer head coach Amy Berbary announced that Cassidy Blacha (Avon, Ind./Avon/Indiana Fire Juniors) has signed her Big Ten tender and will enroll in classes at IU for the spring 2015 semester.
A high school All-American and 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Indiana, Blacha finished with 51 goals and 35 assists, giving her 119 career points, which is seventh all-time at AHS. She is also part of the distinguished 45+ goals club at the school.
"We are thrilled Cassidy will be joining the team this January," Berbary said. "Cassidy is a very mature, driven and focused attacking player. Her athleticism, competitiveness and ability to score goals could prove to be very valuable as we prepare for the 2015 season."
As a senior, Blacha scored 20 goals and added seven assists to help Avon to the sectional title. While many awards for the 2014 season still have to be handed out, she has already been named first team all-district by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association and picked up her fourth consecutive all-conference accolade. She has also been selected to play in the 2014 high school senior All-American game.
The 2013 season saw Blacha explode onto the scene, scoring 23 goals and assisting on 11 other goals as Avon went on to win the Indiana state title. She was named NSCAA High School All-American and earned 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana, becoming the only girl's soccer player in Avon High School history to receive either award.
She scored five goals and had eight assists as a sophomore after posting three goals and nine assists as a freshman and received second team all-state honors after both seasons.
Blacha most recent club soccer experience was under Head Coach Eric Nance and the Indy Fire Juniors. She also spent several years with Zionsville Select under Coach Mike Beckner, where she won the state championship twice as well as the Midwest Regional League Premier 1 Division and Adidas Blue Chip Showcase titles.
Her experience with the Indiana Olympic Development Program (ODP) included a trip to Berlin, Germany to take part in a tournament hosted by the Berlner-Fussball Association. At the ODP National Championship in 2013, she earned Best Girls Performance while competing against some of the top players from across the country in her age group.
She is the daughter of Francis and Diane Blacha, and she has two older sisters, Kaitlyn and Lauryn. Kaitlyn played soccer at Purdue (2008-11) while Lauryn played soccer at Indiana State (2006).
