SETTING THE SCENE • Indiana advances to the Big Ten Tournament semifinal after topping No. 3 seed Northwestern in penalty kicks, 5-4. The teams finished in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of regulation.
• Indiana and Ohio State meet in the Big Ten Tournament for the ninth time with the Hoosiers 5-2-1 all-time against the Buckeyes in tournament play. • The two teams met in Columbus on Oct. 12 with IU taking a 2-1 win on goals from Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Jay McIntosh.
• The teams last met in the Big Ten Tournament in 2009, a 4-2 win for the Buckeyes. • A win today would put Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament title game for the 16th time in program history.
LAST TIME OUT
• With the game not decided after 110 minutes of action and a 1-1 score, it came down to penalty kicks where the sixth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers prevailed over third seed Northwestern (9-3-6) by a 5-4 score in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Illinois. • Indiana had a pair of chances in the early minutes with a shot from Matt Foldesy blocked by a Northwestern defender. The ball took a bounce right to Femi Hollinger-Janzen, but his shot was just wide right of the net.
• Despite attacking into a 20 mph wind with gusts in the first half, Indiana was putting the pressure on Northwestern's backs. • Dylan Lax put Indiana up in the 17th minute with his first goal of the season, taking a shot from 25 yards out after a pass back from Foldesy. With Indiana shooting into the wind Lax caught NU goalkeeper Tyler Miller out of position as he sent it in high straight down the middle.
• Tanner Thompson took a shot on the run that was just wide of the target as Indiana continued to press for a second goal in the first half. • The Wildcats tied things up with 7:08 left to play in the first half with a slip header from Nikko Boxall off a free kick from Brandon Medina finding the lower left corner of the net past a stretched out Colin Webb.
• The teams finished the half knotted at 1-all with teams even in shots at 6-6. Indiana held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 3-2. • There was not a lot of action on the field for the first 15 minutes of action in the second half. Thompson had a corner kick for IU that was cleared out, and the rebound found Patrick Doody but he mis-hit his shot.
• Both teams had just three shots through the first 38 minutes of the second half as the weather played a major role in the flow of both teams' attack. • In the 86th minute the Hoosiers had a tantalizing chance when Thompson fired off a rocket from 30 yards out that caromed off the inside edge of the left post and out.
• For the fifth time in the last six meetings the teams went to extra time. Richard Ballard had a shot on the IU counter in the second minute of overtime but Miller saved his attempt. The corner kick from Doody was picked out of the air by Miller. The counter began after a shot from NU's Joey Calistri was blocked out of danger by the Hoosiers. • A corner kick from Tanner Thompson in the 95th minute bounced around in the box but after touching a few Hoosier boots went out over the end line for a Northwestern goal kick.
• Indiana dominated the second overtime but each time it got near the box found its shots blocked or picked off their feet. Andrew Oliver had three shots blocked in a five-minute period in the second overtime. • It came down to penalty kicks to decide who would advance. Hollinger-Janzen was successful for IU in the first round, as was Calistri for NU. In round two Thompson's shot was good while Eric Weberman sent his high. Trevor Swartz and Oliver were successful for IU, as were Grant Wilson and Miller for the Wildcats.
• Miller saved Indiana's fifth shot from Kyle Sparks, and Connor Holloway hit his to have the two teams tied at 4-4 after five rounds. In round six Webb stepped up and made his shot, while Drew Rosenberg hit is off the cross bar, giving IU the 5-4 win. • Five of Indiana's last six meetings with Northwestern have ended in a tie.
• The Hoosiers out-shot the Wildcats 18-9 in the match, with a 12-3 advantage after the halftime break.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES • Ohio State earned its spot in the semifinal with a 1-0 win over Michigan. The Buckeyes are the No. 2 seed in the tournament after posting a 5-3 conference record.
• Yianni Sarris leads the team in scoring with 14 points (5g, 4a), while Danny Jensen and Liam Doyle have five goals each. • The Buckeyes are outscoring opponents 25-17 but are being outshot on the season by a 243-223 margin.
• Alex Ivanov has played almost every minute in goal, allowing 17 scores in 1775:32 minutes for a 0.86 GAA with 82 saves and seven shutouts. • Ohio State is 5-1-1 in its last six matches.
• Head coach John Bluem is in his 18th season at Ohio State. He is assisted by Frank Speth and Ian Gordona.
SERIES HISTORY • Indiana leads the all-time series with Ohio State, 39-4-3.
• The Hoosiers have won four straight against the Buckeyes, including a 2-1 win on October 12 in Columbus. • Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Jay McIntosh were the goal scorers for IU at Ohio State this year.
• The Buckeyes' goal came on a penalty kick, and IU goalkeeper Colin Webb stopped another PK late in the match. • Hollinger-Janzen has a goal in each of the last two meetings with OSU.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE BUCKEYES... • The first career goal for freshman Jay McIntosh in the 78th minute and a sprawling penalty kick save from goalkeeper Colin Webb in the 89th minute led to a 2-1 win for the 10th ranked Hoosiers over the Ohio State Buckeyes on October 12 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
• In the 48th minute Femi Hollinger-Janzen turned and shot from close range but Ohio State goalkeeper Alex Ivanov came up with his fifth save of the match. However, Ivanov was no match for Hollinger-Janzen just a minute later as the junior hit home a cross from Andrew Oliver at six yards out to put the Hoosiers up 1-0. • Ohio State tied the match at 1-1 in the 77th minute when Kyle Culbertson converted a penalty kick, but the tie would be short-lived. Less than a minute later freshman Jay McIntosh netted his first career goal at 77:15 to put IU back on top 2-1. Jamie Vollmer picked up his team-leading fourth assist with a long ball that McIntosh sent in off the right post.
• Webb was only forced to make two saves during the run of play but it was his third save with 1:07 to play that made the difference as he sprawled to his left and made a near-post save of Culbertson's second penalty kick attempt of the day. That preserved the 2-1 victory as IU improved to 39-4-3 all-time against the Buckeyes. • Both penalty kick attempts were the result of called handballs in the box.
• Indiana put up 13 shots in the game, forcing six saves by Ivanov. Oliver led the Hoosiers with three shots, along with two from Hollinger-Janzen.
SHOULD THE HOOSIERS WIN... • A win over Ohio State in the semifinals would pit Indiana against either No. 1 seed Maryland or No. 5 seed Michigan State on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 p.m. ET.
• That final match will be shown live on the Big Ten Network. • Indiana is 0-2 against both teams this season with a 2-1 loss to Maryland on October 19 and a 3-2 loss to Michigan State on November 5.
• Indiana leads the all-times series with Maryland, 3-1-2, and with Michigan State 37-8-3. • This would be Indiana's first ever meetings against the Terrapins in the Big Ten Tournament. IU is 5-3 in the Big Ten Tournament against Michigan State, with the last win a 1-0 victory in the 2013 championship match.

• The Hoosiers have won the Big Ten Tournament a conference-best 12 times, most recently in 2013. • The Hoosiers are 13-5-4 all-time in the semifinal round of the Big Ten Tournament.
• Indiana is one of just two teams with a winning record in Big Ten Tournament play (Penn State). • Jamie Vollmer scored the game-winning goal for Indiana in last year's title game. Dylan Lax tallied the goal for IU in a 1-1 tie at Northwestern on Sunday. They are the only active Hoosiers to have scored in a Big Ten Tournament game.
ROAD WARRIORS
• Indiana finished the 2014 regular season with an undefeated mark away from Armstrong Stadium, going 7-0-1. • With a 1-1 tie at Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals the Hoosiers are now 7-0-2 away from home this season.
• It is the 11th time in program history a team has not lost away from home during the regular season, with the last time coming in 2005 (6-0-4). • IU also had undefeated regular-season road marks in 1997 (10-0), 1996 (6-0-2), 1994 (8-0), 1993 (9-0), 1989 (6-0-1), 1979 (11-0-2), 1978 (11-0), 1976 (9-0-1) and 1974 (6-0).
• Over a nine-day period from October 25-November 2, Indiana spent six of the nine days on the road, with three road matches and a final record of 2-0-1 in those games. • In fact, IU has played four of its last five games on the road.
OT...EH...
• While Indiana has yet to find the back of the net in overtime matches, going 0-0-5 this season, the extra sessions have not been as unkind to the Hoosiers as they were in 2013. • Last year IU saw eight of its matches go to overtime, going 1-5-2 in those games.
• The Hoosiers' only extra time victory of the season came in the 2013 Big Ten Tournament, a 2-1 victory over Michigan. • However, three of its five OT ties this season have come in games where Indiana held a 1-0 lead (Georgetown, Northwestern twice).

SPREADING THE WEALTH • The Indiana coaching staff preached before the start of the season that goal scoring would be by committee, and that is just what has happened in 2014.
• The Hoosiers are second in the Big Ten in goals scored with 31, with 11 different players accounting for the 31 tallies. • Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Tanner Thompson lead the way with five goals, while Grant Lillard has four.
• Patrick Doody and Jamie Vollmer come in next with three. • Eight different players have double digits in the shot tally, led by 66 from Thompson.
HOME SWEET HOME?
• Most teams would rather play their big matches at home, but for Indiana it seems to be the opposite. • The Hoosiers are 7-0-2 in games away from Armstrong Stadium this year, compared to 4-3-3 in the confines of Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium.
• The Hoosiers have out-scored opponents 17-6 on the road with four of its seven shutouts coming away from home. • All three IU losses this season have come in Big Ten matches at home, a 1-0 loss to Penn State (Sept. 13), a 2-1 loss to Maryland (Oct. 19) and a 3-2 loss to Michigan State.
• This is nothing new for Indiana as in 2012 it was 10-3-1 away from home, while going 6-2-4 away from Armstrong Stadium in 2011. • In 2013 three of the team's eight victories that season came away from home.
