BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head volleyball coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan has announced the addition of Kendall Beerman and Elizabeth Asdell to the Indiana volleyball family.
Beerman, a 6'-2" outside hitter from Lexington, Ky., started on varsity as a seventh grader all the way through her senior year of high school at Tates Creek.
This past season Beerman earned 2014 Under Armour Third Team All-American Honors and was placed on the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-State for the fourth consecutive season.
Under head coach Sara Chaffin, Beerman helped her team to region runner-up standing in 2012 and 2014 and a district championship in 2014.
"I have seen Kendall compete for many years," Dunbar-Kruzan said. "Her mother, Mary Beth, and I were teammates in college and her dad, Chris, competed on the men's team. She learned the sport at a very young age and has a great feel for the game at a high level. She is a tremendous competitor and has a true passion for the game. She adds a quality six-rotation player to our roster and a winner. I couldn't be more thrilled that she is a Hoosier."
Elizabeth Asdell, a native of South Bend, Ind., played for Dan Anderson at Mishawaka Marian.
Asdell, a 6'-3" middle and right side hitter was recently honored by being placed on the 2014 Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association First Team-All State.
For her senior season, Asdell totaled 528 kills with a .886 hitting percentage and a .494 kill percentage. Asdell earned First Team Northern Indiana Conference honors in 2014 and also excelled off the court as she was named an Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Asdell plans to major in Biology with an intention of Pre-Med at Indiana.
Asdell helped her team to a 129-18 record over four years with sectional and regional championships in 2013 and 2014 and the team was a Semi-State Finalist in 2013.
"Lizzy has been on our radar for quite some time," Dunbar-Kruzan said. "We finally took a really hard look at her over the summer and determined that her desire to play at this level and her passion for Indiana University made her a great fit for us. She has strong family ties to IU and we've always said, we want student-athletes that want to be here. I know she will work extremely hard both academically and athletically and be a great addition to our family."
