BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- Indiana head women's basketball coach Teri Moren signed two players to national letters of intent to join the IU program in 2015 during the early signing period. The two high school players signing to play for the Hoosiers beginning next season are Kym Royster (Newark, Ohio/Newark) and Danielle Williams (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley).
"This recruiting class fills some immediate needs for us," Moren said. "When we got here in August, we knew we needed to get some post players to help balance our roster. We went out and tried to find the types of players that will fit in with the defensive system that we want to run. These two young ladies will provide us with the size and athleticism that we need in the Big Ten."
"Not only are these two good basketball players with high ceilings, they are good people. It is important for us to not only recruit basketball players that will help us on the court, but also young ladies that will represent Indiana University off the court."
Kym Royster
6-2 • F • Newark, Ohio/Newark
Royster is in her senior season at Newark High School playing under head coach J.R. Shumate. As a junior, Royster led Newark to a 20-6 record while averaging a near double-double with 20.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She was also very efficient shooting 61 percent from the field. She earned Second Team All-Ohio honors at the end of the 2013-14 season. As a sophomore, Royster tallied 20.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the floor. She also set a school record by connecting on 127 free throws in 2012-13. She has played AAU basketball for Team Ohio, All-Ohio Black and the Dayton Lady Hoopstars.
Royster ranks as the No. 19 forward in the country by ESPN and No. 156 overall in the country by the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.Olson also ranks her as the No. 26 power forward prospect in the 2015 class.
"We are really excited to sign Kym Royster. Kym gives us some much needed length and athleticism in the post," Moren said. "She can score in transition or in the half court. Kym has good versatility being able to play the four and the five positions. With her 6-6 wingspan, she is going to allow us to do a lot of different things defensively. We are excited about the different schemes that we will be able to run with her on the floor. Kym has had a great high school career, and she continues to get better every day."
Danielle Williams
6-5 • C • Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley
Williams is playing her senior season at North Crowley High School under head coach Donny Ott. As a junior, Williams earned first team all-distric honors while leading her team in scoring, rebounding and blocks. She averaged 10 points per game, 7 rebounds per game and 5 blocks per contest in 2013-14. As a junior, Williams led her team in rebounding and during her freshman year helped North Crowley to a district championship. Williams has played AAU basketball for Texas Express, Cy-Fair and Team United.
Williams ranks as the No. 17 post player in the country by ESPN. She ranks as one of the top 100 players in the class of 2015 nationally as Blue Star Basketball ranks her No. 88 overall.
"Signing Danielle Williams is a huge coup for us," Moren said. "We knew we needed some size in the post, and we were able to find Danielle down in Texas. She has legitimate Big Ten size. Danielle will give us a low block threat offensively as well as a rim protector defensively. It is important for us to be able to play inside out, and Danielle will give us that opportunity. She has great touch in the paint, along with her ability to defend and rebound. Her best basketball is ahead of her, which excites us about her future."
