BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golf head coach Mike Mayer announced that Trevor Ranton (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at IU starting in the Fall 2015.
"We are thrilled to welcome Trevor into our Hoosier Men's Golf family," said IU men's golf coach Mike Mayer. "IU Men's Golf has a long history of recruiting top Canadian golfers and we believe that Trevor has a chance to be one of the best. He comes from an outstanding family with exceptional values and has a great athletic and academic background. He has a very impressive tournament resume including winning this year's Ontario Junior Match Play Championship. He was recently named to the Canadian National Development Team, which will give him the opportunity to travel, train and compete with the national team against some of the best amateurs in the world."
Ranton attends Waterloo Collegiate Institute and has had a decorated junior golf career while being named to the Canadian National Development Team coached by Robert Ratcliffe. He was the medalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur that was hosted by Stafford Golf and Country Club and would go on to advance to the round of 64 at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
In the Canadian Junior Amateur, he posted an 11th place finish with scores of 74-71-71-70. Ranton also won the East Aurora International Junior Masters title in 2013 as well as the Ontario Junior Match Play championship in 2014 and was runner-up in the CN Future Links Ontario after posting a score of 69 in his final round.
At Waterloo Collegiate Institute, he helped guide his team to the 2014 team title while finishing third individually with scores of 71-70.
The son of Doug and Sandra, Ranton also has one brother, Jacob, and plans to major in business at Indiana.
