BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Barry King announced today that student-athlete Kate Pipkin has signed her National Letter of Intent and will be joining the Indiana Hoosier Water Polo team for the 2015-16 school year. Pipkin is a utility/attacker for coach Bill Barnett of Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, Calif.
"Kate is the product of one of the preeminent high school programs in the country," King said. "She has a nonstop motor and has a versatility that will fit in very well here. I was immediately drawn to her ability to cover space and her tenacity. She will be a great teammate."
In 2014, Pipkin led the Sailors (Tars) of Newport Harbor to a 23-8 record, a second place finish in the Sunset League and a spot in the California Interscholastic Finals. In her junior season she scored 42 goals and had 19 steals. By her teammates, Pipkin was voted most improved in 2014 and team captain for the 2015 season. During her junior season, she was named to the Newport-Mesa Dream Team.
Kate is the daughter of Matt and Kathy Pipkin and has two siblings, Collin and Caroline.
