OPENING TIP
• The 2014-15 college basketball season represents the 115th in the history of Indiana University. The Hoosiers will host SMU in the Hoosiers Showcase, a round-robin event which includes Texas Southern, Lamar and Eastern Washington.

HEAD COACH Tom Crean
• Indiana named Tom Crean as its 28th men's basketball coach on April 2, 2008, and he is in his seventh year with the Hoosiers. He is 292-193 all-time as a head coach and in the last 3+ years, he has led IU to a 75-31 record, the 2013 Big Ten Championship and back-to-back appearances for the Hoosiers in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1994. In 2012-13, he was named NABC District 7 and USBWA District V Coach of the Year. In 2011-12, In the last two seasons, Crean has mentored three NBA Lottery picks which is tied with Kansas for the most among NCAA schools in that span.
• Crean is the only Big Ten coach to mentor an NBA lottery pick, a National Player of the Year, a first team All-American, a first team Academic All-American and a Senior Class Award winner this decade.
• Over the last three years, Indiana leads all Big Ten teams in scoring (76.6), field goal percentage (47.8), three-point field goal percentage (39.8), free throw percentage (74.9) and free throws made (1,939).
• The Hoosiers 3-point field goal percentage is the highest among major college conference schools in that time frame.
• IU and Kansas are the only two school's that have sent three lottery picks to the NBA in the last two years. (Victor Oladipo, Orlando and Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh, Charlotte)
THREE YEAR WIN TOTAL
• The Hoosiers 73 wins from 2011-12 to 2013-14 represents the highest three-year win total for IU since 1990-91 to 1992-93.
FROM LAST YEAR
• IU was sixth in the country last year in rebound margin (+7.6) and 12th in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense.
BEST IN THE NATION
• IU is among the top academic programs in the country with four straight perfect APR scores of 1,000 and has received an NCAA Recognition Award each of the last two years. Twenty-one players have earned a degree while playing for Coach Tom Crean at Indiana, including five who have earned master's degrees. IU has been honored a league best 27 times on the Academic All-Big Ten team since 2010.
NATIONALLY
• The Hoosiers entered the day ranked sixth in the country in field goal percentage (61.7) and scoring (99.5), seventh in three-point field goals made (21) and are ninth in three-point field goal percentage (55.3).
BIG GAMES
• Indiana has defeated a national best 10 programs ranked in the top 10 in the last three years. IU also leads the Big Ten with 15 regular season wins and a 57.7 winning percentage against the Top 25 in that same span.
MVSU NOTES
• The 116 points scored against Mississippi Valley State is tied for the fifth most in school history and the most since 1994 (117 vs. Tennessee Tech). It also is the most scored by a team in Tom Crean's 16 years as a head coach.
• Stats Inc., who has kept college basketball stats since 1996-97, informed us that for the first time since they started IU had five players score at least 15 points or more in the same game. Blackmon Jr., had 25, Hoetzel had 19, Zeisloft had 16, and Ferrell and Johnson each had 15.
• James Blackmon, Jr. and Robert Johnson became the 10th and 11th freshmen to start a season opener since Tom Crean took over in 2008-09.
• Blackmon scored a game-high 25 points which is the second most for a freshman in his first game at IU (33 by Eric Gordon in 2007 vs. Chattanooga).
• Johnson scored 15 points, had seven rebounds and five assists.
• Junior All-Big Ten performer Yogi Ferrell had 15 points for the game and five assists.
• Eight players overall scored their first points in an IU uniform.
• Junior transfer Nick Zeisloft had 16 points and made 3 of 5 three-point shots. He played for two seasons at Illinois State.
• Junior Hanner Mosquera-Perea had career highs in rebounds (12) and minutes (21).
• Freshman Max Hoetzel scored 19 points (12 in the second half) and brought down nine rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
•Junior Collin Hartman tied his career-high for points with five and set new career standards for rebounds (4) and minutes played (13).
• Freshman Tim Priller scored two points in nine minutes of play. He added two rebounds, one block and one steal.
• Redshirt junior walk-on Ryan Burton put up six points, had six boards and dished out two assists in 13 minutes.
• Freshman Jeremiah April played his first minutes with the Hoosiers. He had two points and two boards in seven minutes of play.
• Freshman walk-on Nate Ritchie hit two free throws to score his first points as a Hoosier.
• IU had 20 assists as a team for the first time since January, 2013 when they had 20 at Purdue.
• The Hoosiers 11 three-point field goals made bettered their season best of 10 last season at Illinois.
STAFF WITH EXPERIENCE
• The Hoosiers have four former head coaches on their coaching staff this season.
• Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley begins his seventh year at Indiana. Former head coach at Ball State. His Cardinals beat #3 Kansas and #4 UCLA at the 2001 Maui Classic.
• Associate Head Coach Steve McClain is in his fifth year in Bloomington. Former head coach at Wyoming who led the Cowboys to the 2002 NCAA Tournament and a win over Gonzaga.
• Assistant Coach Chuck Martin joined the IU staff this past summer. Former head coach at Marist.
• Director of Operations Rob Judson came to IU in mid-season a year ago. Former head coach at Northern Illinois, who captured a MAC West title.
