Murphy Claims Third Straight Academic All-District Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the third straight season, Indiana senior safety Mark Murphy has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced Thursday afternoon. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Murphy is now placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. He became the Hoosiers ninth Academic All-American one year ago.
One of 17 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athletes and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, Murphy owns a 3.85 grade point average in the School of Informatics. He is also one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was a candidate for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.
Murphy is the Hoosiers active leader with 264 tackles and 165 solo stops in his career. In seven starts this season, he owns 34 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one interception. Murphy was named IU's Defensive Player of the Week following the team's win over No. 18 Missouri.
