LAST TIME OUT • The Indiana men's soccer team kept clawing its way back but in the end could not find a third goal in a 3-2 loss to Michigan State Wednesday night in the regular season finale on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
• Michigan State (10-4-4, 4-2-2 B1G) was on the board first in the 30th minute when Ken Krolicki received a pass from Dewey Lewis and hit a line drive from 25 yards out. To that point it had been a back-and-forth affair with neither team looking dangerous in front of the net. • The Spartans went into the halftime break leading 1-0 despite the Hoosiers holding a 6-5 advantage in shots.
• Indiana did not waste any time getting on the board in the second half as Andrew Oliver knotted things at 1-all with a goal at 47:19. The hard work of Tanner Thompson set up the score as his initial shot was blocked. It landed at Dylan Lax, who played it right back to Thompson. Thompson weaved his way through a group of defenders before laying the ball off to Oliver, who hit a cross-goal shot into the upper 90 for his third of the season. • The celebration on the Hoosiers bench was short-lived as the Spartans went back on top seven minutes later with Krolicki's second goal of the night coming in the 55th minute. This time he gathered the ball in the box and took four touches before shooting past an outstretched Colin Webb for the 2-1 lead.
• The Hoosiers continued to press, with Thompson sending a shot off the side netting off a Patrick Doody corner kick with 28:55 to play. Four minutes later Thompson had one of his team-best five shots blocked, with the ball deflecting to Matt Foldesy who also had his attempt snuffed out by a Michigan State defender. • Indiana's pressure around the Michigan State net led to its second goal and a 2-2 tie in the 80th minute as a ball in went off Spartan Zach Carroll and into the MSU net for an own goal.
• For the second time on the night Michigan State jumped right back on top, this time taking a 3-2 lead just 2:29 after the Indiana score. Jay Chapman whipped a ball into the box, finding the head of Adam Montague for the game-winning score. • Indiana had a golden opportunity to tie it again with five minutes left in regulation when Foldesy found himself open on the right post but his attempt glided wide right.
• Indiana finished on top in shots 20-13 but just four of those 20 shots were on frame. In addition to Thompson's five shots, Oliver had three attempts with two on frame. Webb tallied four saves in the match.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS • Northwestern finished Big Ten play at 4-1-3 and is 9-3-5 overall, coming off a 2-0 win over Wisconsin on November 5.

ROAD WARRIORS
• Indiana finished the 2014 regular season with an undefeated mark away from Armstrong Stadium, going 7-0-1. • It is the 11th time in program history a team has not lost away from home, with the last time coming in 2005 (6-0-4).
• IU also had undefeated regular-season road marks in 1997 (10-0), 1996 (6-0-2), 1994 (8-0), 1993 (9-0), 1989 (6-0-1), 1979 (11-0-2), 1978 (11-0), 1976 (9-0-1) and 1974 (6-0). • Over a nine-day period from October 25-November 2, Indiana spent six of the nine days on the road, with three road matches and a final record of 2-0-1 in those games.
OT...EH...
• While Indiana has yet to find the back of the net in overtime matches, going 0-0-4 this season, the extra sessions have not been as unkind to the Hoosiers as they were in 2013. • Last year IU saw eight of its matches go to overtime, going 1-5-2 in those games.
• The Hoosiers' only extra time victory of the season came in the 2013 Big Ten Tournament, a 2-1 victory over Michigan. • However, two of its four OT ties this season have come in games where Indiana held a 1-0 lead (Georgetown, Northwestern).

USING HIS HEAD
• One of Indiana's best weapons this season has been the noggin of freshman center back Grant Lillard. • In addition to being a commanding presence in the air defensively, Lillard is tied for third on the team with four goals scored, all of which have been headers.
• Lillard has scored in two of IU's last four matches, heading home a long throw from Jamie Vollmer for the Hoosiers' first goal in a 3-1 win at Michigan. • He then headed home the game winning goal in a 2-0 win at Evansville, knocking in a corner kick from Patrick Doody.
• Lillard is tied for second in the Big Ten in goals scored by freshman and is the only freshman in the top 10 that isn't a forward.
HE'S A WINNER • Senior left back Patrick Doody has been a surprising offensive spark for Indiana this season, tied for first on the team in assists with five and tied for fourth in goals scored with three.
• Doody entered this season with two goals to his credit, both coming during the 2013 season. • What makes Doody's three goals this year special is that all three have been game winners.

OFFENSIVE DEFENDERS • Indiana has gotten a nice offensive lift from its back four in 2014.
• Left back Patrick Doody is tied for first in assists (5), tied for fourth in goals scored (3) and tied for third in total points (11). • Freshman centerback Grant Lillard is third in goals scored with four. He got in on the scoring with his first career goal coming vs. UCF on September 24. He added his first career game winner in IU's 3-0 win at No. 18 Louisville.
• His third goal brought IU back even with Michigan in what would be a 3-1 victory in Ann Arbor. He also picked up his first career assist in the game. • Goal number four was his second game winner this year in a 2-0 victory at Evansville.
• It was right back Billy McConnell that set up the score against UCF as he whipped the ball into the box, where the 6-4 Lillard headed it home. McConnell picked up his second assist of the year on Matt Foldesy's score in the win over SLU.
SPREADING THE WEALTH • The Indiana coaching staff preached before the start of the season that goal scoring would be by committee, and that is just what has happened in 2014.
